Can I use a steam cleaner on my hardwood floors or how best to clean them?
There are no hardwood manufacturers that recommend using steam cleaning devices on their hardwood. It is suggested by the producers of these machines that it is safe to use them on sealed hardwood. The hardwood manufacturers do not recommend or endorse these machines. It is to the discretion of the owner to use them. Water, steam and hardwood do not mix. To clean the floors first remove loose dirt by vacuuming or sweeping. Use a slightly damp mop with plain water and a small amount of a mild dish soap. Do not use vinegar. Run the mop with the grain of the wood and buff to remove any haze. Otherwise use a good neutral based hardwood cleaner. We carry a series of products designed specifically for all hardwood floors.
