Carpet

If you’re on a budget, carpet is an economical flooring product that insulates and provides warmth! Many synthetic carpets are treated with static, stain, and soil resistant treatments which allow for ease of cleaning and maintenance.

CARPET FIBRES

  1. Nylon – the most durable and stain-resistant fibre available. Nylon tends to be the fibre of choice for homes with pets and children, as well as for those who do a lot of entertaining. It is perfect for heavy traffic in hallways and stairs.
  2. Polyester – known for its luxurious looks, feel, and a wide selection of colours and styles. Good value for homes with normal traffic.
  3. Olefin – this fibre offers good stain and moisture resistance; however, it scores under nylon and polyester for its durability. It is best suited for loop pile construction or high, dense cut piles.
  4. Wool – a favourite fibre for its natural beauty. It has a natural soil resistance but is not inherently stain resistant. Wool is a well-constructed product that will continue to look good for many years!

HOW TO DETERMINE QUALITY

  • Twist - how tight the fibre has been twisted. It is especially important in cut pile carpet, due to the exposed tips, it can become untwisted giving the carpet a matted and worn appearance. The tighter the yarn is twisted, the better the carpet will stand up to matting and crushing.

  • Density - both the amount and how tightly the fibres are packed together within the carpet. The closer the fibres are placed together, the denser the carpet will be, and the better the carpet will wear and perform.

CARPET THAT FITS YOUR LIFESTYLE

Cut Carpet

  • Consist of yarns that are cut at the ends.
  • Has a soft feel that makes it a perfect choice for comfortable areas of the house, such as bedrooms, living rooms, and family rooms.
  • Has five basic styles: velvet, Saxony, frieze, shag, and cable. Each one provides a different texture and look.
  • The difference in these styles is the amount of twist in the yarns that ultimately influence the carpet’s durability.

Loop Carpet

  • Yarns that are looped and uncut on the surface.
  • Height of the pile can vary from a low, tight construction to a more luxurious, high-level pile.
  • Is an ideal style for heavy traffic areas due to its strength and soil hiding abilities
  • Most popular style of loop carpet is berber, as it can be constructed as a level-loop or multi-loop.

Cut-loop Carpet

  • Has a combination of high cut tufts and lower loops available in a variety of sculpted patterns.
  • While cut-loop carpets offer good performance, they are slightly less durable than loop carpets.
